Jason Statham 10 Best Movies
Jason Statham isn't a great actor when it comes to dramatical versatility but he's proven on many occasions that he is more than capable of performing well in action movies. Boy, has he proven that... There are very few actors you can picture beating up a room full of bad guys with surgical precision and a carefully executed combination of punches, kicks, jumps and employing the unconventional use of random objects from the environment. Of course, that's not the man's only strength, as we've seen in Guy Richie's movies more than once. That's why Statham deserves his own article, I feel, and you obviously agree with me if you're reading it. So, without further a due, here's the top 10 best movies starring Jason Statham.
#10. Mean Machine
We start the list with an odd movie about football in prison. Although it's not technically a Jason Statham movie (as he doesn't appear much in it), the presence of his character, Monk, can be easily felt throughout the whole film and in the few appearances Statham had, he managed to leave a lasting impression.
#9. London
Potty-mouthed comedy is another one of Statham's talents, as I've already said. This movie is one of the greatest examples why. Here, Statham is actually allowed to show his acting potential, and that he does, ladies and gentleman, proving once and for all that he's not cut just action scenes.
#8. The Bank Job

#7. The Italian Job
While we are on the subject of robbing banks, here is yet another role Statham is perfect – that of a talented wheelman. Here he portrays an extremely gifted driver – Handsome Rob, and fits the role perfectly. The movie is filled with obvious plot twists and “Ocean's style” heists, so you won't be disappointed. Also, it features Charlize Theron, so there's that...
#6. Crank
The title of the movie should've been “Crazy” because it's just that – totally insane. Every minute is filled with action and unexpected occurrences, including but not limited to picking fights with random gangsters, brazen midday robberies and, oh, falling off a helicopter and surviving. Here Statham portrays a gun for hire who through is poisoned through an intricate plot (I won't spoil it for you) and has to constantly keep his adrenaline up in order or he will die, which causes the never-ending insanity of the movie.
#5. Death Race
Statham's characters have been drivers, and have been in prison... But in Death Race both worlds collide as his character is a driver in prison. Framed for his wife's murder in order to become a substitute driver, replacing the star of a show called “Death Race”, Jensen Ames is determined to find out who framed him. The movie is as predictable as it gets, but it's not without merit.
#4. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Arguably the movie that launched Statham's career, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is basically a must see. Yet another heist movie (this time in the crazy Guy Richie style of comedy), the movie once demonstrates how good of a performer Statham can be. If you haven't watched it, I don't know what are you waiting for... Go watch it now! The article isn't going anywhere...
#3. The One
In the crazy world of Sci-Fi, killing yourself receives a whole new meaning. The movie is about a power crazed Jet Li who runs around, killing his other “versions” in different dimensions, gaining their power (because that makes sense...). Anyway, Statham is there to too stop him, which, as you can probably imagine, doesn't work all that well. It was the first time I've seen Statham getting his ass kicked...
#2. Cellular
Here's where Statham gets to play the villain. In order to retrieve a videotape that recorded a murder, Statham and his goons kidnap the family of the man who had shot the tape. However, the kidnapped woman (played by Kim Basinger) somehow manages to scramble together the wires of a broken phone (a Biology teacher with an engineering degree from MIT, I imagine) and calls a random number, which happens to be Chris Evans. The movie was better than I expected but not too popular.
#1. The Transporter
Maybe one of his most prototypical roles ever, here we see Statham in his full glory, bashing skulls and beating up people in industrial quantities. Never make the mistake of trying to kill this guy – it's been proven time and again that you will only get in trouble. This movie shows you why.

Though I think (not sure) he's popular in US theaters, Statham is a mystery to many Americans. I think he's just as good if not better than most US action stars.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, he's tougher than the pretend tough guys, like Matt Damon & his ilk.
He made his first mark here with Transporter. I've not heard of the ones you've listed but will definitely be interested in seeing at least a couple.
I love Statham & think he's way under-rated.
you should check out Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels its pretty good
ReplyDeleteCrank is a lot of crazy fun
Cellular is surprisingly good
