The Sworn Sword
At this point Dunk and Egg had traveled through the seven kingdoms and ended up in the reach serving an aging knight Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast who dwells on the past and has a constant struggle with his neighbor the Red Widow Lady Rohanne of House Webber.

The Sworn Sword Opposed to the Hedge Knight doesn’t focus directly on the Targaryen royal family, we do not come in contact with none of the Targaryens (accept Aegon) during this chapter of The Tales of Dunk and Egg. What we do have plenty of in the Sworn Sword is the history of the smaller houses of the Reach: House Osgrey and House Webber in particular. As we continue reading we discover the rich and deeper history of those two houses We understand the core reason why they are in constant conflict with each other for the last decade.

As the plot continues to develop Dunk starts to really grasp and understand what is the real difference between crowns traitors and its heroes, he learns to understand how major houses can lose everything and how smaller houses can climb to the top, everything is a matter of one single choice and its timing.

Just like in the ASOIAF books which constantly revolve around Robert Baratheon's rebellion against the Targaryens or the War of the Usurper (if you are on team Targaryen). In the Tales of Dunk and Egg there is a strong emphasis on the recent history as well, the First Blackfyre Rebellion was very fresh event in the memories of most participants in the Sworn Sword.

The First Blackfyre Rebellion divided Westeros in two, the ones that supported the so called legitimate heir to the Iron throne Daeron II Targaryen and the ones that supported the proud Daemon Blackfyre who was legitimized by King Aegon IV Targaryen with the rest of his bastard born children on his deathbed. The outcome of the Blackfyre Rebellion carried heavy consequences for all Westeros houses (great and small alike). If we focus on Osgrey and Webber, houses that are featured in The Sworn Sword. One House gained greatly and the other was on an edge of extinction.
